EAERE Summer School in Resource and Environmental Economics – Recent Applications of AI in Environmental and Resource Economics

The interuniversity research center ECOBAS, together with the University of Santiago de Compostela and the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), organizes the EAERE Summer School series 2026–2030 in Resource and Environmental Economics for postgraduate students, with local organization led by the ECOBAS research center and the University of Santiago de Compostela. The EAERE Summer School 2026 will address “Recent Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Environmental and Resource Economics” and will take place from 6 to 12 June 2026 at San Martin Pinario, near the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

Objectives

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into environmental economics is emerging as one of the most transformative and promising developments for understanding and addressing the ecological challenges of the twenty-first century. In a global context marked by climate change, the energy transition, and the urgent need for sustainable management of natural resources, AI-based tools offer new capabilities to enhance analytical precision, uncover complex causal relationships, and design more effective environmental policies.Within this framework, the inter-university research centre for Economics and Business, ECOBAS, is organising the EAERE Summer School 2026, a Europe-wide initiative that will be held in Spain for the first time as the host country. This edition, which will take place in Santiago de Compostela, will dedicate this advanced training forum to a systematic analysis of how AI can expand and redefine the traditional methods of environmental economics. The programme will combine theoretical foundations, applied demonstrations, and hands-on experiences, enabling participants to understand not only the potential of these techniques, but also their limitations and ethical implications.
