The European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) is proud to award the European Lifetime Achievement Award in Environmental Economics to Prof. Aart De Zeeuw in recognition of his lifelong contribution to the development of environmental and resource economics and to his important contributions to the promotion of research and the profession itself in the field. His work is widely recognized as original and has inspired many new researchers.

Prof. Aart de Zeeuw receives this recognition for his fundamental research contributions in the areas of differential games and environmental economics, international environmental agreements, and optimal management and games in the presence of tipping points. This Award recognizes also Professor de Zeeuw’s important contributions to the development of EAERE where he served as President, as initiator of the EAERE Summer School series, and in many other different key roles crucial that were for the development and success of the Association. He has also been instrumental in Environment and Development by promoting the cause of researchers in developing economies.

Prof. Mordechai Shechter receives this recognition for his pioneering and outstanding contributions in water resources, economic valuation of damages to environmental and natural resources, environmental taxation, and climate change economics, for his contribution for the affirmation of environmental economics as a discipline, for his contribution to the education of many generations of scholars, for his crucial contributions to critical policy debates in Israel and abroad, and for his outstanding record of service to the profession and society.
