Single-use plastics
On 21 May 2019, the Council of the EU adopted the ambitious measures proposed by the Commission to tackle marine litter coming from the 10 single-use plastic products most often found on European beaches. Single-use plastics products for which an alternative exists and is accessible will be banned from the market. Some of the products included are plastic straws, plates and cutlery. For those products for which an alternative is not feasible at the moment, the focus will be put on considerably reducing their use, while applying design and labelling requirements and obligations of management and cleanup for producers.
