Congratulations to Mauro Petriccione for being named the new European Director-General of Climate Action! Also, thanks to the outgoing Jos Delbeke for his work as DG Climate Action since 2010.

The European Commission has recently appointed Mauro Petriccione as the new Director-General of Climate Action. He has been working at the European Commission for over 30 years, serving as Deputy Director-General in DG Trade since September 2014, and most recently as the Chief Negotiator of the EU-Canada and the EU-Japan trade agreements. As DG of Climate Action, Mr. Petriccione will be instrumental in advocating the full implementation of the Paris Agreement, which is a top priority for the Juncker Commission.

EAERE would like to acknowledge Jos Delbeke for his work as DG Climate Action over the past several years. Mr. Delbeke will become Hors Classe Adviser in the European Political Strategy Centre at the European Political Strategy Centre, the Commission's in-house think tank. Specifically, he will be Senior Adviser for Relations with the Florence-based European University Institute.

Recent changes in EC senior level management extend beyond DG Climate Action, including 4 other Directors-General appointments and five new Deputy Directors-General. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker highlights the fact that two of the newly appointed DGs and four of the five new Deputy DGs are women, bringing the number of women in the positions of Directors-General and Deputy Directors-General up to 36 percent.
