The European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) launched a new EAERE-ETH European Winter School series in Environmental and Resource Economics. The 2019 Winter School is titled The Economics of Energy Transition and will take place from 27 January – 1 February 2019 in Ascona, Switzerland.

The deadline for applications is 14 September 2018.

The school will focus on the public policies that support the transition to a greener energy mix. Public policies that aim not only to reduce the carbon footprint of electricity generation but also to improve air quality through less nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides and particulate matters. The lectures will examine the emergence, design and impacts of those public policies including carbon trades, cap-and-trade, emission standards, subsidies to R&D, feed-in tariffs and renewable portfolio standards, and intellectual property rights for green innovations. Both theoretical and empirical approaches will be covered.

See the school website for more information.
