XX ANNUAL BIOECON CONFERENCE: Land-use, Agriculture and Biodiversity: Spatial and Temporal Issues

BIOECON XX will be of interest to both researchers and policy makers working on issues associated with land-use decisions and their impacts on biodiversity. In particular, BIOECON XX aims to focus on agriculture, the conservation of biodiversity and crop genetic diversity, and the use of spatial data to study these issues. Submissions that highlight experiences in both developed and developing countries, or trade related issues between the two are welcome on this theme.


The European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists solicits proposals for the management of the association’s Secretariat for an initial period of 6 years starting in January 1st, 2020 and terminating in December 31st, 2025. The appointment can be extended. 


Universities, research organizations, or groups of organizations that intend to submit their candidature are kindly requested to send their expressions of interest by May 31st, 2018.


Expressions of interest consist of (1) a formal letter stating that the candidate will perform the activities listed in Annex 1; (2) a presentation of the candidate including relevant experience in similar activities; (3) a preliminary budget; information on the Association’s accounts is available here; (4)  information  on  how  the  candidate plans to deal with the fact that the Association is legally based in Italy (see Annex 2).

Policy News

- Poland's President Andrzej Duda signed a bill ratifying the Doha amendment to the Kyoto protocol, making it the final EU country to ratify a global framework for reducing GHG emissions, allowing the EU to now accept the deal as a bloc. Read the news.


- Parliament backed new targets towards a circular economy: municipal waste recycling target: 44 % today, 55% by 2025, 65% by 2035; no more than 10% landfilling by 2035; and separate collection of textiles and hazardous waste. Read the European Parliament News.


- Members of the European Parliament voted in committee in favor of measures on sustainable finance, which include having financial authorities check financial institutions' investment portfolios against climate goals such as the Paris Agreement, and making investors take into account their clients’ preferences on environmental and social concerns. - France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, and Luxembourg are calling for EU climate ambition. Ministers want an ambitious long term strategy in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Read the Press Release.
